Bock?

I am grateful that, even though she was contimplating coming in, she decided outside was a better place for herself.

Brave little chicken

My chickens decided to brave the snow today.

But all the did was pretty much follow the path we made to the back door and stayed there.

I decided to put them back in after they had been out for a while and one of them didn't follow me back to the chicken run on the path so she decided to fly to it.

Now chickens aren't the best fliers and this little lady flew into a snow bank and, since the snow is so nice and soft and fluffy, she sank and the more she tried to get out the more she got stuck.  Poor girl, but I couldn't help but chuckle at her.

Photobucket

I am grateful that they have been handling the cold and snow just fine.

And It's only November.

Photobucket

The high today is supposed to be about 20...the low around 2. My poor chicks! I have been worried about them freezing even with a heat lamp on. They didn't even attempt to come out during the day today. =(
I am thankful for wireless thermometers so I can see the temp in the coop without leaving my kitchen.

What're ya? A big chicken?

Photobucket

I think the cat was more scared of the chicken than the chicken was of her.

I am grateful that we all get along.

All the kings horses and all the kings men couldn't put humptey back together again.

Photobucket

I think checking for eggs is one of her favorite things to do each day. But today she tripped and fell and down fell the egg that couldn't be put back together again.

She was devistated.

I am grateful how a hug and some loves can help mend a saddened heart.

More of the chick-a-doos

Photobucket
I don't know why I started to call them the chick-a-doos, but I do. And do today my oldest thought it was the funniest thing when she got one of them to jump up to get a treat out of her hand. It was a rather silly thing to see!
I am thankful that I live in a city that lets me have things like chickens and that my kids can get a real feel for where our food comes from.

I am thankful for my fine feathered friends.

Here chicky chicky!

Photobucket

With that last snow storm, my chicks wouldn't leave their run. It was their first snow storm and they were scared of the strange white stuff that now covered their world. When it melted they were quick to come out and find a nice dry spot of dirt to have a goood ol dirt bath and a little snooze in.

I am grateful for these 3 little hens.

I wonder...

Hmmm.....could it be?

Photobucket

This little egg was found on the rock wall when I was weeding. I am pretty sure that it came from one of the chickens since it was sitting in chickapoo.

I have read that sometimes thier first eggs can be tiny little 'trial' eggs....that are unedible of course.

I am grateful for things that make me excited.
