Day 21

Wow, talk about being an emotional day. It was filled with laughter and fun and sorrow and good memories and tears. Well, last night we went to Springville and had dinner with Grandpa and Aunts and Uncles and some Cousins. It was a lot of fun and so good to see everyone and visit with them. Then we stayed the night with some good friends that we met in MA that we haven't seen for a while. They have kids our kids ages and so it was non-stop fun for everyone. I think we finally got the kids in bed at 11 last night. Then we went to visit Grandpa again today and took some cute pictures and had a nice visit with him. We then had lunch with one of Weston's old co-workers. After that we headed over to the cemetery...which of course is always hard. Ashlyn and I just stood there crying for at least 30 mintues (and I am very grateful that I have such a tender-hearted, sweet 8 yrs old). We picked out an arrangement that had green in it, since I think that was Dad's favorite color, and after we got there I thought that maybe we should have gone with silk flowers so they wouldn't die from the cold an hour after they are left out. It was hard leaving them there in the snow and cold knowing that they would probably be brown by the end of the day. After that I felt exhausted and drained and just wanted to go home. So we made it back home and stopped to get a couple of movies that were a nice way to end the day. I am so ready for bed.

You made your Grandpa's day. It was the first thing he told me last night.

A dear friend of mine who lost a son and works as a florist told me this about flowers on a grave: When flowers are cut, they are still alive. When they are placed on a grave, at some point they do die, and like every living thing their spirit returns to the spirit world. She thinks they visit our loved one first. Our loved ones get the flowers we give them. I think its a beautiful thought. Thank you for inviting me!
