Memories.

Photobucket

I have felt bad since it has been a while since I have been down to visit my dad's grave. We made it down today and brought some flowers from our garden. We put some on my dad and grandparents graves.

Every time we go there the kids go straight to work cleaning dirt and grass from the headstones. I don't even have to ask them, they just start doing it as soon as they get out of the car. E had decided to wash off my dad's stone with water. She realized that she hadn't washed off my grandparents stone yet and walked over to it and as she was pouring water on it she could be heard talking to them . Telling them not to worry she would make their's nice and clean too.

It is hard, and may sound really really wierd, but a little part of me is thankful that we are able to go visit loved ones in the cemetery and still show love to them by the simple act of cleaning off the headstones and for keeping their memories and legacy alive as we reminisce about their lives.

Not weird at all. What a sweet E. One of the things I miss about moving is not being able to go down and doing the same thing.

As children, my brother and I would visit my grandfather's grave with my mother and my grandfather. Like your children, we would clean the headstone and add flowers. As my grandfather died before I was born, this memory is the only one I have of him. I am sure when you children grow up, they will value the connection to departed family members, as I do.
