Day 90

Ok so dinner didn't look too good, the 'grilled cheese' sandwhiches got burned because I was in a hurry. But for our April Fools dinner this year (last year I did mock sushi) I made what looked like a chocolate pie with strawberry frosting and grilled cheese sandwhiches. For the table setting I gave the girls huge plates and the adults small kid plates. Then we all had odd sized forks and tupperware container's for our cups. As we sat down for dinner I told the girls that since it was April Fools day I decided to make dessert our main course and the sandwhiches as the dessert. They thought that this was great and I said who wants pie and they both yelled 'me!' and were licking their lips. I dished them up (and I thought that as soon as I dished it they would be able to see that it was not a real pie (it was shepards pie), but they didn't notice. And Ella put some of the 'frosting' (which was mashed potatoes) on her finger and licked it off..... the look on her face was priceless! She pushed her plate away and said 'I don't like this pie' And Ashlyn took a taste of the 'frosting' and said 'Mom there is something wrong with this pie!' I was just laughing my head off and then I finally said 'Well, since you don't like the pie maybe we should eat the grilled cheese sandwhiches.' and I gave each of them a half of a sandwhich (pound cake with frosting). Ella got some of the 'cheese' on her finger and exclaimed 'Mom! This cheese tastes like frosting!' So I exclaimed April Fools and they both started laughing. The shepard pie recipe I used was disguisting so we ended up not eating it...and had our 'grilled cheese sandwhiches' and yogurt and bananas and cheese. But it was fun and the kids loved the 'trick' even though the pie didn't taste good. I am grateful for jokes (as long as they are not mean).

That sounded so fun. I love the tricks with the food. (As long as you can really eat it)

I'm sorry your "pie" wasn't edible after all that work, but it was a great "April Fool's" joke to play on them. The 'Shepherd's Pie' must have been the recipe owner's 'joke' on everyone who tried her 'recipe'!

So funny. That grilled cheese looks so real! That's funny what dragon said about the pie!
