A Snow Cone of sorts
She discovered that you can eat snow.
So, she ate it...
And ate some more.
I am thankful that the snow was from a storm that fell when the air was clean.....none of that gross inversion stuff in this white fluff today.

Slick and Slippery here
It is hard when the days are first-bite cold and the skies seem to be a constant grey to be cheerful.
So, I was grateful when I ran across a shrub today that still had some red berries. It made me think of the seasons to come....even if it was covered in ice.
(We had an ice storm here a couple of days ago.....a first for me here, but when we lived in MA that was a common thing.)

A whole lot of white stuff.
In fact, we got experience our first snow day yesterday....yes they actually canceled school! I think I was more excited about it than the kids were. =)
Somewhere under that mound of snow is our back porch steps.
And here is Ella trying to get through the snow so she can sled down the hill in the backyard.
That is about as far as she made it before she gave up.
The snow was going down her boots and her feet were kinda turning into popsicles.
I am grateful that the power didn't go out during the storm.

Winter Walk
Little A and I decided to go for a walk on our lot. The snow was deeper than we expected and was up over her boots. So, instead of letting her run free, she had to stick to the trail that I made as I walked. But it was fun to explore and get some fresh air.

Wishing.
Wishing I was here again.
With the weather being super super cold. And the wind blowing super super hard (making it feel like it is 12 below zero) I can't help but wish to go back here.
I'm grateful that the ground hog didn't see his shadow this year.

FFffffffrrrrrrrozen.
I think during my first year doing this blog I was a little obsessed with icicles. Last year seemed to be with things covered in snow. This year the thought of going out to take a picture of something just makes me cold. But, with the sun out and shinging brightly, I stepped just barely outside of my backdoor and snapped a couple of picture of an icicle. I am grateful that I haven't broken my second favorite lens......knock on wood.

What was I thinking!?
I am such a sucker when it comes to animals. I have always thought that 2 cats was the limit. The perfect number to have......but somehow I got talked into taking another one.
So meet the newest addition to our family, Leo.
He belonged to Weston's mom. He kept pooping on the same spot in her house. And it seemed that her house was the only house that he did that at. We had him over once before (for a week) and he never did it. And he had been over to 2 other peoples houses before for a week or so and nothing there either. So she called me crying asking if we would take him because she just couldn't bring herself to take him to the pound. We have done that before...had to take a pet to the pound because no one would take care of her until we were in an apartment....and it was the hardest thing ever. So when she called we just couldn't say no....but we did tell her that if he pooped anywhere in the house she would have to come and get him.
So, here he is.
I am thankful that he seems to be happy here with us.

More of that yuck.
This picture tells it all. Cold and dreary today.
I am so very very grateful for my nice warm house.

A little bit of nature.
I really can't believe how cold it has been today....and tomorrow is not supposed to be any better. High of 16 degrees is forcasted. yuck. The kind of weather where your hair will freeze if it is wet when you go out side. Where you can feel your boogies freezing in your nose. Where my chickens would freeze if not for the heat lamp. double yuck.
I was very grateful that we had a flock of birds right at the door that thought it wasn't too cold to be out and about. They were munching on some chicken scratch that I had spilled the day before.
