I wish I could Run Run Run!

Baby Rootbeer had a track meet today......let just say she was in tears.
Her stomach problems are now interfering with her sports.  She felt SO sick and could barely run. 

I am grateful for her team mates that willingly stepped up and took her place in her remaining events.

Electric Run

Alright, here is my review of the Electric Run.

My oldest and I were super excited for this race. From all the ad's we saw about it, we were excited to run with lots of cool lights everywhere and lots of music to follow us through to the end.

 

We were also excited to get to wear our gloves with glowing finger tips, our light up shirts (the ones that are sound activated so every time there is a noise it lights up (we got lots of compliments about them) and we couldn't wait to try out the glow in dark face paints.

 

Let me just start by saying that there is a LOT of energy and excitement from EVERYONE at the starting line.

Super Super loud music that you can't help but dance to a little bit.  A guy at the beginning of the starting point that is talking to everyone on  a microphone that is totally helping everyone to get pumped and ready for the run. And it is fun to see how everyone dressed for the race.

  

So, here comes some info about the start of the race.....the race was started in several intervals.  Meaning that not everyone is allowed to run at the same time.  They only let a few dozen go at a time. And just as a heads up they don't keep track of your time/don't have a timer-clock thing anywhere.....at least not that I saw.  So, if you wanna know how fast you ran it you will need to keep track of your own time.

Having everyone start at different intervals worked out good for us because we were really late to the race (30 minutes late =/...due mainly to the fact that there were so many people there that it was so hard to find a place to park and we had to walk 10 minutes till we got to the starting line ), but even though we were so late we still had to stand in masses of people in the starting area for at least another 30-45 minutes.

But it wasn't so bad because of all the energy that was flowing there.

I was so ready to run and get this race on....my legs were just itching to run.

As we got closer to the starting line, we could see that there was a guy in a morph suit (that had a glowing line in it so he looked like a glowing stick figure) who was up on a platform dancing and throwing handfuls of glow sticks into the crowd.  I thought it was a fun touch.

K.....so here we are at the starting line.  We are next to run.  My excitement is nearing the top and I can't wait to see what lies beyond.

Lets just say that it was a disappointment after all the build up of excitement and energy at the starting line.

As soon as we crossed the line, the music got really faint and there weren't any lights for a little while.

In fact the first thing we came on were these umbrellas that were hanging in trees with different colored light shining on them.

 

The coolest thing that we came upon in the race is this arched changing colored thing (pictured above) that we got to run through.  There was also a fun area that had bubbles floating around in a pavilion that you ran through.

And here and there you would come across a black-lite area.

 

 And then after crossing the finish line the excitement and energy started to build again.  There was loud music again.  People up on a stage. Laser lights going every which way.  People of all ages dancing and crowding toward the stage.

 

Maybe I was expecting something different but it didn't really seem like a race to me.  Most people were just walking or standing around taking pictures.  And there were a lot less lights/light up things than I was expecting.

Oh, and I am assuming that it was due to the location that the event was held at, but there was a lot of dark areas and the terrain would change without us being able to see it and there was a time or two that I almost fell.

It was a lot of fun to do this with my daughter.

Overall.... I think it is worth doing once, but I don't think that I'll run it again.

Time for round 2!

Today was the mud run!

The kids were excited.

Baby RB almost didn't run it (cause she ran the 5k before it) but I am grateful that she did cause this year was the last year she could do it.

And NO one face planted it this year like last year.  =)

Even little Ponyo got to participate.

And since they didn't think that they got muddy enough the first time around after the race they decided to run it again!

Then they helped each other get hosed off after.

School Fund raiser

Weston was out of town so we spent the day at the schools fun run carnival and fund raiser.

First there was a costume parade/contest.

And then we watched Baby RB run in the 5 k.

And then it was the younger kids obstacle course.

And then the kids just ran around doing all the other activities that were there.

I am thankful that it was a fun warm day and that my hubby comes home tomorrow!!!

And their off!

Yes, they had my permission to get this muddy.

In fact, it was my idea.

I signed them up for this race.

Which turned out to be a mud race.

For those who know Little A you know that she does not like to be dirty. So when I told her the race was through mud she wasn't too sure about the idea.

I kept telling her over and over how much fun it would be so she agreed to do it. Baby Rootbeer was nice enough to help her out and get her to the starting line.

You can tell by the look in her face that she's thinking that this isn't going to be fun.

And there off!!

At the start she seems to be thinking that maybe this is going to be fun...that she might even enjoy this romp in the mud.

And then, it looks like she's starting to change her mind.

And then, dash it all, face first in the mud.

She is probably thinking 'And my mom said this would be fun?! She's in so much trouble!'

People in the crowd started encouraging her to keep running so she decided to give it another try.

And here is my brave little runner! In the end she decided it was fun, but was ready to get out of those muddy clothes (especially her shoes) as soon as she was done.

And then it was time for her sister's to run.

I thought it was cute how they held hands and that E had a big grin on her face the whole time.

They loved it! Baby RB wishes that she fell in the mud like little A. ha ha! Silly girl.

I am grateful that they had a firetruck there to rinse off the muddy kids.

Take your mark

I didn't get to run the race this year.....kinda still healing so I wasn't even going to try to.

But I did get to support my husband and my oldest as they ran it. Go team!

I think that this (besides crossing the finish line) is my favorite part of the run. At the very beginning it is just a mass of people all running together. I love it!

And I was thankful that I was able to get a picture of it. =)

My 'team' did awesome! Baby Rootbeer beat her time, got second place in her age group (25th out of ALL the females....and there were 145 girls running).

Runners! Take Your Mark!

Today was the Hershey's Track meet.

Baby RB didn't have a lot of training....just 3 days before the meet.

But I think she did AWESOME! She got 3rd in her events.

It turned out to be quite a hot day. The younger 2 got tired of sitting quickly.

I am grateful that I felt good enough to go to the track meet.....but learned quickly that I still need to take it easy.

Baby RB also signed up to do the softball throw.

I just loved watching her do these events. Running was something that I disliked a ton when I was a kid....but it was so exciting to be here cheering her on.

You go girl!

The tortise and the hare.

Not quite like the real tortise and the hare story, but I was definately the tortise in this race....the slow, pokey one (did better than last years race, though). This little one was definately the hare, the fast one, the one to get 1st place in her age group by 3 minutes! Woohoo!

I am thankful for fun running buddies (thanks for running with me Courtney and Wes and A!)

Run Forest! Run!

So this was it. This morning was the 5k and Fun Run for the school. Ella and Acadia had a good time running the fun-run. Acadia decided to run it last minute....so she ended up doing so in a skirt and flip flops. And Ella was just thrilled to have her best friend to run it with.

And all the participants recieved a ribbon.

Ashlyn and I ended up getting 2nd place in each of our age divisions. I was one proud mama! Not of what I got (ok I did think it was pretty cool) but how well Ashlyn did (I think that there was probably only 3 people running in my age division for me to get 2nd lol!) But She did SO good. She held back and stuck with me for probably half of the run and then I told her to go ahead......and she left me in the dust! She got the finish line 4 or 5 minutes before I did!

I am thankful that my kids were all proud of just running a race.
